
Flaginol (TABLETS)
For treatment of amebiasis and trichomoniasis
COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains 500mg secnidazole.
PROPERTIES:
Secnidazole is a 5 – nitro-imidazole derivative, it has activity against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa with properties similar to those of metronidazole.
INDICATIONS:
Flaginol is indicated for the treatment of amebiasis and in trichomoniasis.
DOSAGE:
It is preferable to take Flaginol during meals.
Children: 30mg/kg daily, in a single dose. It is recommended for children with weight around 25kg to take ½ - 1 tablet.
Adults: 4 tablets daily in a single dose or divided into several doses.
Period of therapy depends on the severity of infection, and it may last for 1 – 3 days.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea, vomiting, stomach burn with metallic taste, dry mouth, glossitis, and numbness or tingling in the extremities.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to imidazole compounds.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Flaginol increases the anticoagulant effect of warfarin.
PRECAUTIONS:
- Patients should be advised not to take alcohol during therapy.
- Doses should be reduced in patients with severe liver disease.
- Blood test should be carried out before and after therapy in patients suffering from leucopenia.
USE IN PREGNANCY OR LACTATION:
It is not recommended to use during the first trimester of pregnancy or during lactation.
