What is Allergy-Crom?

Active ingredient: Cromolyn sodium

What is Allergy-Crom used for?

It is FDA approved for the symptomatic treatment allergic eye disorders like

vernal conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, and keratitis.

What is Allergy-Crom’s mechanism of action?

Cromolyn sodium is a mast cell stabilizer, meaning it inhibits the mast cell degranulation and stops the release

of inflammatory mediators like histamine and leukotrienes that are responsible for allergic symptoms.

How is Allergy-Crom different from other anti-allergy eye drops?

Other anti-allergy eye drops have both antihistamine and mast cell-stabilizing properties.

However, cromolyn sodium only has mast cell-stabilizing properties, thus it is useful in persistent or recurrent allergic conjunctivitis

. It could also be used for patients who suffer from seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, who do not tolerate other therapies and can

estimate when their symptoms will begin. Treatment usually starts 2-4 weeks before the pollen season.

How is Allergy-Crom used?

1-2 drops in each eye 4-6 times daily. Symptomatic relief is frequently noticeable after a few days; maintain

therapy for as long as necessary.

Can Allergy-Crom be used in children?

Yes, it can be used on children 4 years and above
